Minimum import price lifted

21 July, 2008 - Yesterday (Sunday) saw the lifting of the minimum import price (MIP) for Norwegian salmon exported to the European Union.
The pricing levy has been in place for almost 20 years and its lifting has been greeted with celebration among the salmon industry in Norway,
The Norwegian Seafood Export Council (NSEC) will now invest more than NOK 60 million (almost £6 million) this year marketing Norwegian salmon throughout Europe. Seventy per cent of Norway's annual production of 750,000 tonnes goes into European countries, with two-thirds of all salmon eaten in Europe coming from Norwegian producers.
