Senior Freshwater Technician

Scottish Sea Farms Ltd wish to recruit a highly motivated and experienced Freshwater Technician for our freshwater operation on the Isle of Mull. Our Mull operation has stable, sustainable production plans and produces smolts of a high quality.

Both tank and loch sites have had recent investment and development in areas of fish handling, tanks, feeding systems, oxygenation, cage and net infrastructure.

The successful candidate should have over 4 years practical experience across a range of disciplines involved in freshwater smolt production from egg input to the final preparation and transfer of smolt to sea in both tank and cage rearing systems. You should be able to demonstrate a strong drive and ability to continuously develop and maintain the best and most secure rearing and welfare conditions for fish stocks. We are looking for an individual with good leadership and communication skills and the experience to organise daily tasks and oversee the site in the Managers absence. The successful candidate should be able to make this happen with a focus always on Health & Safety performance, staff development and a willingness to help our Mull freshwater site exceed Scottish Sea Farms internal and customers’ quality expectations.

Salary and conditions will be attractive, (with additional payment for Alarm and Duty weekends) and will reflect the skill, experience and responsibility asked of the successful applicants. Assistance can be offered with accommodation.

In addition to this position, we also have a vacancy for a Freshwater Technician within our site on Mull. Duties will entail day-to-day care of stock, fish health, quality and process monitoring, strongly linked with responsibilities for Health and Safety and equipment maintenance.

Hatchery Technician
06 August, 2008 - Inchmore Hatchery

We currently have a vacancy for a Hatchery Technician at our hatchery at Inchmore, which is located 10 miles west of Invermoriston.

The post would be offered on a permanent full-time basis, working a 40 hour week.

This freshwater role is focused upon care of the eggs prior to hatching and also effective fish husbandry of the fry and smolts prior to their transportation to seawater farms. Applications would be particularly welcome from candidates who have some experience in freshwater operations but it is not essential as full training and support would be provided.

Beyond the nature of the role, the post holder would be expected to undertake over-time as required in order to accommodate the business needs of the Hatchery and, for the same reason, would be part of the site Alarm Rota which would involve staying in the hatchery accommodation for approximately one week in every 4 weeks.
